Quantum tech to offer advanced military applications: Southern Army Commander

Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth, the head of the Southern Army, stated that the first nation to master quantum technology is poised to acquire the ultimate strategic advantage, just as nuclear weapons shaped military doctrine in the 20th century, and India must act with "urgency." About 100 students and military officers attended the seminar, in which other quantum technology experts gave presentations.
The commander stated that there are significant repercussions and implications for military operations involving quantum computing, communication, and sensing and that we have already witnessed the implications that cyber warfare has had on conflict over the last two decades. For example, he stated that most modern military communications, secure networks and even banking systems rely on advanced encryption methods that take supercomputers years to decode.
Lt Gen Seth said, "Quantum sensing has perhaps the most immediate military impact. Advanced quantum sensors will revolutionize navigation, imaging and surveillance. Stealth technology, the backbone of modern air and naval warfare, may soon be obsolete. Unlike conventional radar systems, Quantum radar can detect stealth aircraft and submarines with unparalleled accuracy. In 2018, China announced progress in quantum radar development, potentially neutralizing stealth aircraft like the F-35 or even our future Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA)."
